Ouvrir l'outil →Kitchen conversions for recipes written for a different country or a different quantity. Cups to grams, oven temperatures between scales and fan settings, and scaling a recipe up or down.
Cooking conversion is messier than it looks, because volume measures depend on what you are measuring and how it was packed into the cup. Where that matters, these tools use ingredient-specific densities rather than pretending one cup is one number.
Which tool do I want?
| If you… | Use |
|---|---|
| A recipe uses cups and you have a scale | Convertisseur de mesures de cuisine |
| You are cooking for a different number of people | Mise à l'échelle de recette |
| The oven temperature is in the wrong scale, or you have a fan oven | Convertisseur température four |
A cup of flour is not a fixed weight
Depending on whether flour is scooped, spooned or sifted, a US cup lands anywhere between 120 and 150 grams. That is a 25% swing on the main structural ingredient — enough to take a cake from tender to dense while you followed the recipe exactly.
Which is why serious baking recipes give weights. A scale removes the variable entirely and saves washing measuring cups. If you only change one thing about how you bake, make it this.
Scaling has a limit worth knowing too. Ingredients scale linearly; time and geometry do not. Double a cake and it needs a larger tin or two tins, and roughly 1.5 times the bake, not double — the batter is deeper and heat reaches the centre more slowly. Salt and strong spices are usually better scaled slightly under and adjusted at the end.
