How to calculate electricity cost
Multiply an appliance's wattage by the hours it runs per day, then divide by 1 000 to get kilowatt-hours (kWh). Multiply kWh by your electricity tariff to get the daily cost. A 2 000 W washing machine running for 1 hour costs 2 kWh × your rate.
Natural gas units
Gas is billed either per cubic metre (m³) or per kWh of energy content. 1 m³ of natural gas contains roughly 10–11 kWh of energy depending on gas composition and your supplier. Check your bill to confirm which unit and rate applies.
