One tool, one job. It earns its place when a phone shows a numeric code instead of a network name — roaming abroad, debugging a SIM, or working out which operator a device actually attached to.

How to read the codes
Every network has a Mobile Country Code and a Mobile Network Code. The MCC identifies the country — 310 through 316 are the United States, 242 is Norway, 234 the United Kingdom. The MNC identifies the operator within it, and is two or three digits depending on the region, which is why some codes read 310-260 and others 234-15.
The pair is also the front of your IMSI, the identifier on the SIM itself, which is how the network knows where to route a roaming device back to.
Two wrinkles. Large countries hold several MCCs, so a US carrier may appear under more than one. And an MVNO usually rides on its host network's code rather than having its own, so a lookup can name the operator whose towers you are on rather than the brand you pay.
