Tool öffnen →Genetics and metabolism tools: translating a DNA or RNA sequence to protein, predicting offspring ratios from a cross, and estimating daily energy expenditure.
Coursework tools mainly, so each shows its method — the codon table it used, the grid it filled in, the equation it applied — because in biology teaching the working is usually the assessed part.
Which tool do I want?
| If you… | Use |
|---|---|
| You have a nucleotide sequence to translate | DNA-Übersetzer |
| You are predicting offspring genotypes | Punnett-Quadrat |
| You want an estimate of daily energy needs | BMR/TDEE-Rechner |
A Punnett square gives probabilities, not outcomes
A monohybrid cross producing a 3:1 ratio does not mean four offspring will split three and one. Each conception is independent, and the ratio describes the probability per event. Four children from a carrier pair can easily be four unaffected or two affected — the same way four coin flips are rarely two heads.
The ratios only emerge over large numbers, which is why Mendel's peas needed thousands of plants. With small families, deviation is the norm rather than evidence against the model.
The squares also assume a simplicity most traits do not have: one gene, two alleles, complete dominance, independent assortment. Real inheritance brings incomplete dominance, codominance, multiple alleles, linked genes that do not assort independently, and polygenic traits like height where dozens of loci contribute. The square is the right tool for a textbook cross and the wrong one for predicting a real phenotype.
